Safety First in Beaumont Park!Local residents are quite rightly demanding a pedestrian refuge or zebra-crossing, depending upon the results of local consultation. Dr Walsh would prefer to see a full zebra crossing as the safer option to make crossing safer and to slow down speeding traffic in Beaumont Park, after the fatal crash in December. Dr. James Walsh has been urging the County Council to do this for some time, but has now been told that it is possible that one will be installed near Finisterre Way before too long. He said "This is long overdue, and why do we always have to wait for a tragedy before something is done?" River footbridge must be kept open in future
The footbridge over the river to Rope walk and Clymping mustn't be closed for months again. If it was a road, it would be closed for a day or so! Liberal Democrats are ensuring that the county council are aware of just how inconvenient and dangerous its closure is. This is just another example of how pedestrians and cyclists are considered second-class to cars. The roadbridge, further upstream is dangerous to cross, and is a big detour for residents of Rope Walk, many of whom are elderly and/or disabled.
