Labour's NHS crisis hits Littlehampton

Littlehampton's Liberal Democrats have launched a major campaign against cuts to the local health service.

"After ten years of Labour Government our local NHS is facing real financial pressure," said Mark Foster. "Once again the closure of the A&E departments at Worthing and St Richard's are being talked about, and Littlehampton hospital is a hole in the ground The Lib Dems strongly oppose these cuts."

The local Lib Dem campaign is part of a wider campaign by the Liberal Democrats to highlight Labour's failing management of the NHS.

The Lib Dems are calling for:

1) An end to the cuts - hospitals are under threat, staff being made

redundant and services slashed. It's no way to run the NHS and the cuts should be halted.

2 Cut the waste - While services are being cut the Government is

spending millions on computer systems that have yet to deliver and botched

reforms which don't help patients.

3 Give people more say - Under Labour it is Government Ministers that

have ALL the say while local people have NO say. The Lib Dems want to

see more control of the NHS in the hands of local people.

"We are writing to more than 5,000 local people asking them to back our

campaign by signing our petition to show their support for good quality local

health services," said Mark Foster.

Littlehampton hospital is just a hole in the ground, with long delay or complete cancellation of a replacement. Now we hear that the unelected officials who run the NHS are thinking of downgrading or closing A&E at St Richard's and Worthing and are considering even the closure of either or both hospitals entirely! Littlehampton loses out again! Not only are we exactly between Chichester and Worthing, but we've lost our own little hospital too. Given our location, terrible public transport and elderly population this is utterly unacceptable, Liberal Democrats are supporting the campaign to build Littlehampton Hospital, and prevent the closures at both Worthing and Chichester. The problem is that the Labour government has shifted money from our hospitals to the north of England. Please sign the petitions in local shops and pubs, etc..

Littlehampton Hospital 2006

The human chain around Worthing hospital on the 8th October 2006, proved that people are not taking Labour's NHS crisis lying-down. When Blair came to office he announced "only 24 hours to save the NHS" Mark Foster, Littlehampton campaigner said "We've got more than 24 hours, but we haven't got very long before medical services in this area are downgraded" The Liberal Democrats in Littlehampton support all efforts to save Worthing and St Richard's hospitals

NOW IS THE TIME TO STAND UP AND SAY NO MORE BUILDING UNLESS WE GET OUR HOSPITAL BACK.

Councillor Ian Buckland is appalled about the result of the WSPCT ( West Sussex Primary Care Trust ) in their announcement that there is possibly no future for a Littlehampton Hospital after all the years of hard work by other councillors and promises made to them.

It is disgusting that West Sussex and especially Littlehampton and surrounding areas are being exploited by the government and it's only those who live here that care about what happens.

So far it's no Hospital and no major works to the A27 at Arundel until 2016. The WSPCT cannot promise anything, they want better services for everyone, BUT they want to 'down-size' Worthing and Chichester hospitals and send people further afield, like to Portsmouth, Southampton, and Brighton etc etc.

The A27 is already at bursting point and is so much over its user capacity. The WSPCT want to have more ambulances, paramedics etc etc on the road BUT IS IT NOT COMMON SENSE that without the road infrastructure this is just suicide. Or in a scenario who is going to apologise to you when they say SORRY GOT STUCK IN TRAFFIC??

The inevitable that shouldn't have happened happens.

And then we have the new building structure like McCarthy and stone, one building nearly complete and another in its planning. All these extra care apartments for the elderly and frail!! Has Littlehampton got such an elderly society that can afford these types of apartments or are these people coming in from some where else?? Where are they going to go?? Are we mad to allow this to happen?? Our doctors, dentists and opticians are all at bursting point and some of us have to wait a week or more at present to see one of them. And with all this we have a town which is supposed to be a seaside resort with more buildings being built more people visiting and staying.

But we have no facilities or infrastructure to support them and most importantly NO HOSPITAL.
