Memorials need protection.

My fellow Councillor Ian Buckland recently wrote to the Gazette regarding the memorial dedicated to those Duke & Ockenden employees who made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives so that we can live in a country that is democratic (well, almost!) and where freedom of expression exists. That is, a country where the Government has been elected by the majority of people able to vote and where a person may fundamentally disagree with what another person says but who will defend to the last the right that other person has to voice it.

I wish to draw readers' attention to another war memorial that exists in the Town which is dedicated to another such group which worked in the Town and went off to war & sadly did not return. It is dedicated to Post Office employees and is situated in the Post Office in The Arcade.

Given the transient nature of businesses these days, perhaps these memorial plaques would be better placed, suitably protected, alongside the Town's War Memorial?
