HUGE INCINERATOR FOR FORD?

The Conservatives at County Hall have just announced plans for a Waste Incinerator for the whole of West Sussex, to burn un-recyclable waste.

Among the 16 sites short-listed for this is FORD AIRFIELD, which already has a Prison, the Sewage Works for the Arun District, and the new re-cycling sorting centre for the whole of the County.

They have yet to release details of the type of incinerator proposed, beyond saying that it will "produce electricity". Some processes can produce highly toxic smoke, which of course the wind can blow in any direction, and potentially contaminate residential areas including Yapton and Clymping.

There is also the question of lorries bringing waste from all over West Sussex, and possibly London, to such a plant, over already hopelessly inadequate and overcrowded roads. Nick Gibb MP has said he welcomes the proposal for a plant to burn waste, as long as it was sited appropriately!   Nick Herbert MP has said " I think people will welcome alternative ways to deal with waste other than landfill."

David Jones, your local Liberal Democrat candidate says:  " There is absolutely no way that I will support such a proposal in the middle of our community. The environmental damage is just too much to consider, especially all the extra lorry traffic through our villages. I will fight any such proposal at Ford tooth and nail, and say to you that a vote for me is a vote against yet another imposition on our community".
