The Bognor Regis and Littlehampton Liberal Democrats work all year round for the communities of Bognor Regis, Bersted, Aldwick, Pagham, Felpham, Middleton-on-sea, Clymping, Ford, Yapton and Littlehampton and are the main challengers to the ruling Conservatives on the local councils at all levels as well as the parliamentary constituency.

    The membership contact for the Bognor Regis and Littlehampton Liberal Democrats, Mark Foster has anncounced a 25% increase in membership numbers since the General Election was called. Speaking at a recent social event, Mark Foster said;-

    "Far from the predicted mass-resignations all the evidence is that the Liberal Democrats in government has encouraged people to join the party. Most of the new members have been in the Bognor Regis town area, but we have seen several new members in Littlehampton and a few more in the villages. I would new encourage members to get involved in the local debates, social events and local discussions about the coalition"

    ONE OF THE CONSERVATIVE TOWN COUNCILLORS, LIVING IN MIDDLETON MOVED TO FELPHAM, SPARKING A BY-ELECTION WHICH WAS WON BY THE CONSERVATIVES ON THE 8th DECEMBER 2011.

    Littlehampton Liberal History

    1853

    Littlehampton gains a 'local health board' and officially becomes a town

    1894

    The (Liberal) government creates 'Littlehampton Urban District Council' to replace the local health board.

    1906

    The Liberal party celebrates a landslide victory in the general election.

    1923

    In the 'free trade' general election of 1923, Liberal candidate Charles Mark Clement Rudkin becomes the MP for Chichester (which included Littlehampton). Unfortunately, there is another general election in 1924, and he loses the seat.

    Liberal Democrats in Littlehampton have demanded that County Hall chiefs fix our roads rather than put up signs warning motorists about our broken roads. Mark Foster speaking at last weeks branch meeting said;-

    "The County Council are trying to fix the roads with 'cold patching' which doesn't last very long, the 'fixed' roads will soon be broken again and the signs will have to go back up. Some of Littlehampton's residential roads have not been resurfaced for forty or fifty years and patching is only a temporary solution"

    Become a Liberal Democrat councillor in Bognor Regis or Littlehampton

    The Liberal Democrat councillors are the grassroots campaigners, who do the bulk of the day-to-day work of the party. The party is always on the lookout for people who want to serve their community by being a local councillor.

    Long-serving councillors retire and need to be replaced by fresh, active, local campaigners.

    The Littlehampton Town Division is made-up of River and Ham wards in Littlehampton plus a tiny slice of Brookfield ward. The seat is currently occupied by a Conservative councillor who lives in Rustington. The last election was in 2009 where Ian Buckland, for the Liberal Democrats came within 68 votes of winning the seat. The next election is due in 2013.

    Ham Ward Page

    .Ham ward has some serious problems and challenges. The Surestart Centre is something that the Liberal Democrats care passionately about as well as traffic and anti-social behaviour issues. Potholes are a menace in much of the ward, with Clun Road and Courtwick Road bearing huge craters. Liberal Democrat councillors have been instrumental in bringing these to the attention of the authorities.
