Letter from Littlehampton Gazette dated Thursday, August 26th, 2010 - "Going to the Dogs"
New!
Thu 2nd Sep 2010
Littlehampton is under siege with dogs' mess everywhere! What an attraction for visitors! These remarks have been reported recently to me as a Ward Councillor. Is this a national problem or just one that residents locally are now experiencing? According to my fellow Lib Dem colleague representing River Ward, Councillor Ian Buckland, this has been an on-going issue thoughout the Town with the East Bank walkway especially afflicted. While incidents have been reported on numerous occasions, he feels that without the support services in place or the general public prepared to name and shame these anti-social dog-owners won't ever get caught. While residents have reported an increase in the incidence of dogs' mess that has not been cleared up by dog-owners, this is not simply confined to pavements & alleyways throughout the Town, but also appears to be happening at parks & open spaces, where dogs are being let off the lead to roam free.

Letter from The Bognor Observer dated, Thursday, 19th August 2010
Fri 20th Aug 2010
What a pity that Labour supporters, including Mr Cosgrove, seem to have forgotten that in fact they actually lost the General Election. Also, it is easy to be critical in opposition, especially when not putting forward viable alternative policies. Whatever future grand plans Labour had, the electorate had lost confidence in their government & voted them out!

Lib Dems - The Voice of Reason
Wed 11th Aug 2010
By the time of the General Election New Labour had became a dysfunctional & factional coalition that had lost its' way. Labour partisans are still smarting from being excluded from power by a Coalition Government working in the national interest. Had Labour remained in government it fully intended to raise VAT to 20%. Sure Start may have helped some but audits indicate that it did not always help families for whom it was intended.

Letter from Littlehampton Gazette dated Thursday, July 15th, 2010 - "Labour's Real Legacy"
Mon 19th Jul 2010
I am concerned that the Labour Party seems to be taking the electorate for fools. There seems to be a complete refusal to accept any responsibility for the deep financial crisis that this country is now facing. A note was left behind to simply say that the money had run out. Yet you would not believe from what Labour is now saying that any of the financial problems being faced by the Coalition Government had anything to do with them. Labour Ministers were in the government that wrecked the economy yet they deny being the people in charge. So does it really matter who becomes the new Labour leader?

Letter from Littlehampton Gazette dated Thursday, July 8th, 2010 - "Unfair burden on tax-paying public"
Mon 12th Jul 2010
I agree with Stan Nattrass regarding the need for an investigation into the unfairness of pensions, however, I would go further given the vast differences in the pensions of those in the boardroom & those on the shopfloor. By highlighting that the average level of public sector pensions is comparatively low, averaging only around £70 per week, it masks the fact that half of these pensions are greater than this figure & indeed, some are the substantial "gold-plated pensions" of high-earners. It is the unfair burden of these that the Coalition is seeking to address. Indeed, taxpayers who work in the private sector are actually funding these public sector pensions as well as having to fund their own pension provision, however meagre!

"How can you possibly take on such a large financial commitment as Trident without considering the military and political implications? If fierce cuts are to be made in Britain's conventional forces, surely we have to consider whether replacing Trident can be justified. "
Sir Menzies Campbell
Response to announcement that the Ministry of Defence will be responsible for the cost of replacing Trident - 30 July
"With most of their leadership contenders claiming to back AV for a fairer voting system, it is astonishing they now wish to block the legislation to make that happen. Each and every Labour MP campaigned on a manifesto committing to a referendum. Now they have the opportunity to make this happen but have chosen to say no for opposition's sake. "
Simon Hughes MP
Comment on Labour's decision to oppose legislation for a referendum on the alternative vote - 28 July
"With more than half of ASBOs breached in 2008, this was a policy more about posturing than effective policing. Local communities know that other measures, such as Acceptable Behaviour Contracts can nip problems in the bud before they escalate. "
Co-Chair of the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Committee for Home Affairs and Justice, Tom Brake MP
Commenting on speech by the Home Secretary in which she said it was 'time to move beyond Anti Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs) - 28 July
